Description

Vardan could not postpone his plans just for the rain, since the weather in the mountains can never be guessed or predicted. The only thing he could do was choose which paths to follow to collect as much saffron as possible that day, and which forests to return through to cut more amber. Whenever he stopped, regardless of the fact that it was raining, he would stop for jasmine tea. He would take a sip and then think: "How could she do that? Such an ultimatum..." His previous calmness was gone, and he had to find an answer by the following day.

After another sip of tea, he threw a few stones of amber into the saffron scroll, stirred them with his hand to cover them thickly with iodized pollen, and took one out. He began to peer at it.
